Denver Fashion Week 2018

Web Hosting

Hello beautiful Fashionistas! Before I post my third Designer Spotlight Post, I wanted to share my experience at my very first Fashion Show for Denver Fashion Week, which was November 4th through the 11th.

Denver Fashion Week 2018 is just now coming to an end. My girlfriend, Janell, went with me to the final night for the National Designers Fashion Show on November 10th. I will say though, that it was a bit confusing as far as which Designers were SUPPOSED to be there and then which ones’ were ACTUALLY there. More regarding that later. About Denver Fashion Week and the program is listed below showing the lineup of Designers.

But first, here are a couple of pictures of us getting ready for the event!:

ABOUT DENVER FASHION WEEK:
Denver Fashion Week (DFW) is Denver’s largest fashion showcase featuring emerging designers, local boutiques, national brands, hair stylists, makeup artists and models.

Mission Statement/Goals:
Promote local designers, boutiques, stylists, models, international and national designers, as well as sponsors throughout the event
Produce a world-class fashion experience unlike any in Denver
Increase economic development for the region’s fashion and design communities
Increase awareness and media impressions for runway participants and sponsor

Local boutique, Garbarini will present national and international designers, some making their first DFW debut and some returning from last year. The night will feature top designers in the fashion industry from all over the world; from Australia to New York to California. If you’re curious as to see what the fashion is like at fashion shows from around the world, this night is one you won’t want to miss.

Garbarini Presents National Designers Show Lineup
360 Cashmere
Pam and Gela
Nicholas K
Milly
Zadig and Voltaire
J Brand
Nour Hammour
Sam New York

When we went in to the Fashion Show, we got our pictures taken on the Red Carpet!:

We had front row tickets for the event that we thought was going to last 3 hours, but it actually only lasted about half that time. Strangely, a few a these Designers above were not there. BUT, L’Agence Fashion WAS there, which I was pretty excited about. Pam and Gela, Nicolas K, and J Brand were not there. I’ve never been to a Fashion Show, but that didn’t seem normal to me to have them printed on the schedules, but not have them show up! I realize it was Denver Fashion Week and not NY or Paris Fashion Week, but I still thought it was rather strange. Anyone else who went to this event notice this strange occurrence? Or is it normal for scheduled National Dssigners to NOT show up?

Either way, we had a fabulous time and it was a night to remember! So glad we went and experienced this.

I got in the full spirit of the night with this first picture. I joked that I liked the look so much, I may incorporate it into my everyday look 😉!

This is towards the end of the night, hence the sour look on my face. I was starting to fade lol!

And of course, the classic bathroom selfie HAD to be taken!

All in all, it was a great night, albeit a short National Designers Fashion Show.

And just to let you all know what we wore to this event – I wore a Dress the Population Mini Sequin dark turquoise dress with Jessica Simpson white heels and a Rebecca Minkoff White holographic Crossbody bag. I chose to stay true to my edgy sense of style and add white heels and a bag to go against the norm of wearing black accessories. Then an ivory/white coat because we had a Winter storm moving in fairly quickly that evening.

Janell wore a purple Bardot Sequin Dress with Black boots and a black faux fur coat. She looked phenomenal and we both got lots of compliments on our looks.

I hope you liked this post and the fun pictures that went along with it. I’d love to get some comments from anyone who went to this event or any others like it and what your experience was like!

RtA Brand Spotlight

Web Hosting

For my second Designer Spotlight, I’ve decided to showcase RtA Brand! Some of you may not have heard of them, as they just debuted in 2013. But in that short time, they have certainly made a name for themselves by creating quality, fashionable, and edgy designs for the fashion-forward woman who likes to stand out with her style (that’d be me lol!)

[ROAD TO AWE]

RtA WAS LAUNCHED WITH THE PURPOSE OF CREATING A MOVEMENT.

A MOVEMENT OF LIKE-MINDED INDIVIDUALS WHO SHARE A BELIEF THAT CLOTHING SHOULD BE USED AS A FORM OF EXPRESSION.

RtA WAS BORN UNDER THE PRETENSE THAT CLOTHING SHOULD BE EFFORTLESS AND CHIC.

IT IS THE INDIVIDUAL – THE REBEL WHO SETS TRENDS. RtA IS A STATE OF MIND AND WHILE THE CLOTHING EVOLVES, THEIR IDEAS ARE NEVER DETERRED.

I absolutely LOVE RtA’s Mission Statement and what they stand for…. “It is the Rebel who sets the trends..RtA is a State of mind, and while the clothing evolves, their ideas are never deterred”. Just BRILLIANT!

I wore these RtA Brand Red Shimmer Leather ‘Prince’ Pants for my photo shoot. I also have them in silver and they are seriously amazing! They are so amazing that I also purchased the ‘Prince’ Pant in the color Lithiun below (2nd pic):

Some MANY favorite items of mine by RtA are below. The ‘Prince’ Pant is my absolute favorite! I have the silver, red, and now the Lithium colors, and every time I wear them, I get so many compliments. Plus, they literally feel like butter. The quality and fabrics used are incredible! I’m actually trying to remember how I came across RtA, and I honestly can’t remember, but I’m sure glad I did!

RtA Information (Los Angeles Times 2017 Article excerpt):
Inspiration for this collection stemmed from “the good times when girls used to have fun.” According to designers Eli Azran and David Rimokh, women are rock ‘n’ roll in their relaxed, ideal world; the AW17 collection does not disappoint this vision. The RtA girl for AW17 wears silver suits and casually layers chubby fox fur coats over denim overalls. She wears patent-leather slouchy pants matched with striped sweaters and metallic bomber jackets with denim.
Rta continues to build exciting, organic momentum globally and the exclusive international positioning of this brand and its “cool vibe” have fostered a cult following.

This was just a bit of background into this up and coming Designer Brand. I would definitely be watching this company, as their designs and trendsetting items are worthy of being worn by celebrities, as well as folks like you and I! They have awe inspiring designs (Road to Awe), and a slightly androgynous Style. The RtA woman likes to have fun while looking great in casual, edgy, and dressy items made to look exciting and adventurous. I personally know that when I wear my RtA Leather Prince Pants, I get so many compliments on them and I feel like a million bucks. I think Nordstrom needs to pick up this line and I think it could do very well, wink, wink 😉!

For more information on RtA Brand, please visit rtabrand.com. You can also find select RtA items at Saks, Revolve, Forward, and other Designer sites. Links for these sites are under ‘My Favorite Links’ page.

Thank for reading, my friends. I hope I’ve inspired you to go out or make an online purchase of some RtA Brand items. I’m going to go try on my newest pair of Prince pants in the Lithium color!

L’Agence Fashion Spotlight

Web Hosting

Good morning my fellow Fashionistas and Trendsetters! How are you all on this fine Tuesday morning? It is a dreary, cold morning here in Denver, but somehow I find this comforting.

For my next few posts, I want to share with you and showcase some information and Style Inspiration from some of my favorite Designers! The first Designer I will be showcasing is L’Agence Fashion! They are a fairly new company (launching in 2008), but have already made a serious name for themselves with their innovative designs, superb fit, and fashion-forward initiatives. The ‘Margot’ Jean is one of their top sellers (which debuted in 2015), and it comes in a variety of colors and fabrics, including the 3 pairs I just purchased in the coated denim! Their denim line has really taken off and is also a celebrity favorite!

About L’AGENCE:
History:
L’AGENCE embodies the mergence of the Los Angeles effortless lifestyle with an understated Parisian influence. Since the brand’s inception in 2008, the California-based label has maintained its identity while using luxury fabrics and modern designs to produce timeless ready-to-wear for women.

In 2015, L’AGENCE launched their denim assortment. Combining style, cut and fit, the category has since become the brand’s top selling classification.

L’AGENCE continues to perfect its voice among the fashion influencers, providing women with a feminine versatile wardrobe that helps her elevate her personal style. It’s a label that caters to the chic and elegant jet-setter. Producing 11 collections a year, L’AGENCE is available in approximately 300 doors in the US with major retailers such as Intermix, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom.

Known for its easy-to-wear wardrobe staples and relevant fashion looks, L’AGENCE has garnered a vast celebrity following ranging from Hollywood darlings to young starlets. Brand ambassadors include Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Cindy Crawford, Emma Roberts, Karlie Kloss, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Lopez, Kaia Gerber, Lilly Collins, Demi Lovato, Ashley Graham, and Scarlet Johansson to name a few.

Our Mission:
Designing to inspire your life. A California lifestyle, with a French attitude.

We are committed to timeless products that earn and retain customer loyalty.

Our philosophy is to inspire leadership that empowers our team and develops our next generation of leaders.

Our Culture:
Integrity is our foundation.

We value the magic of creativity.

We appreciate and acknowledge each other with generosity.

We interact with respect and compassion.

We honor commitment and accountability with focus.

Communication, empowerment and collaboration are our cornerstones.

Now that we know who and what L’Agence Fashion is all about, let’s talk about their FASHION & STYLE! My first feature is the ‘Neval Blazer’ that just recently sold out. We are ALL hoping they get all sizes back in soon! I believe I actually got the very last size in the company (sorry, guys!).

Here is a preview of a few of my favorite pieces by L’Agence Fashion. Just like their bio and mission statement says, ..”Designing to inspire your life. California style with a French attitude….”. You can certainly see this aesthetic in their clothing..

The ‘Margot’ Jean by L’Agence is incredible! I have one pair (seen below), and the fit is perfection. I usually don’t like high-rise Jeans, but this is one exception! They have many different colors of the ‘Margot’ Jean, including the pairs I just bought, which are all this style. Stay tuned for more pictures when they arrive. I’m especially excited to see how the holographic pair looks… This plays into my edgy sense of style perfectly!

The next couple of sets feature the ‘Margot’ Jean that L’Agence Fashion has really capitalized on since introducing Denim into their collection in 2015. I first tried on this style while at Nordstrom and absolutely fell in love with them. I didn’t realize how many washes and colors they had until I started to do some research… which of course then lead me to purchase 3 more pairs! Ahhhhh!

The ‘Margot’ Jean comes in regular denim, coated denim, corduroy, and velvet:

Defined by our exclusive contoured waistband to wrap around your natural waist for a stay-put fit, the black super stretch denim is soft whitle holding its shape for a slimming effect presenting a smooth silhouette from hip to ankle.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Spotlight on the Fashion Designer, L’Agence Fashion! I highly recommend all of their items – top quality, great customer service, and fashion-forward designs!

I look forward to showcasing more of my favorite Designers. Stay tuned for the next post (that I’ll keep a surprise!), that will showcases another favorite designer of mine. I’ll be showcasing three Designers, so one down and two to go!

For more information on L’Agence Fashion, visit their site at www.lagencefashion.com. You can also find select L’Agence Fashion items at Nordstrom, Saks, as well as some other designer sites like Revolve, Forward, etc. (links are under my ‘Favorite Links’). View Post

My Fashion Business

Web Hosting

I wanted to share with you a little bit about my experiences working in the Fashion Industry and some lessons I’ve learned so far.

I’ve learned that whether you work for yourself in your own Boutique or for a major Fashion Retailer, it’s YOUR BUSINESS THAT YOU’RE BUILDING! This is your career and life, and you are basically building your career in Fashion like a Book of Business. And it’s YOUR BUSINESS! I didn’t know that when I first started at working in this fast-paced, high-stress job in the Fashion Industry. I didn’t even think there would be stress! But it’s a tough business and definitely not for everyone. It’s my Passion for Fashion and helping customers feel and look good that keeps me driven and wanting more..

When I first started working at Nordstrom , I had just made a major career change and was still reeling off the adrenaline of such a bold move. I just knew I was going to be successful and promoted right away! After all, I was bright, learned quickly, and had a great personality and sense of style (lol)! But even though I DID know a lot about Fashion, I DIDN’T know a lot about The Business of Fashion. I didn’t make a lot of money those first few months I started working at Nordstrom until I found my “groove” and learned how to deal with some aggressive sales associates in my department and others. I even had a rather unfortunate fight with a girl from another department after she took one of my clients I had been working with and then screamed at me for trying to talk to her. I ended up going to HR about the situation after being left in tears, and I never saw the other girl again… From what I heard, she was brought in to just talk about the situation, and she flipped out and quit. I was pretty rattled by that whole thing, but it also helped me to toughen up, hustle more, and not take any sh*t from anyone! From then on, I started to surpass my teammates in sales and soon was the top sales associate in my Department!
I still had a lot of learning to do though. And I’ve learned that I’ll be learning my whole career. I’ve bought Fashion Books, read articles and Blogs, done research on anything and everything in my field, and am even thinking of going back to school to get a Masters Degree in Fashion!

But even with all that, just being ‘on the job’ is what has helped me the most. I’m naturally an introverted person. I like to be alone and can occupy myself forever on my own. I always thought that I would need to change my personality somewhat while at work and not be so introverted, and while that is true in some respects, I’ve also learned that I don’t need to change who I am! Yes, I need to be more extroverted than I’d prefer, but I can still be ‘me’. I’ve learned how to talk to customers and by just being my normal self, I come off more natural and ‘friend-like’, which has worked to my advantage. Most of my customer letters have said something like “it felt like I was shopping with a friend”. So I don’t dial myself up like I used to. I’m just me, but with a little more hustle and aggressiveness, but not in an obnoxious way. This has also helped me to become one of the top Reward (credit card) openers in the store too. I’ve learned how to ‘sell’ that to customers without actually ‘selling’ it, if that makes sense. Again, I just casually talk about it and the benefits of getting one like I’m talking to a friend. I don’t do an obnoxious sales pitch.
I’ve also learned that being honest with a customer goes a long way. I don’t tell every customer that everything looks good on them when it doesn’t. That will just result in a return that I pay for later. If I’m honest in the beginning, I gain the customers’ trust and also build a relationship with them, even if that means losing out on a higher sale in the beginning. The chances of them wanting to come back and shop with me again are higher, so long term, I end up winning! I’ve built a lot of customer relationships and even made friends with some clients by being honest and ‘friend-like’ in the beginning.

I’ve also learned that I need to be patient and continue to persevere. Even right now, I feel ready to move on to the next step in my career. Over the last couple of years working at Nordstrom , I saw that there were so many different paths I could take in My Fashion Career, and at first, I thought Management was the obvious choice – I have management experience, I’m very organized and detailed, I work well with others, I am fair – all qualities that could make for being a good Manager. But I also developed a passion for Designer Fashion. I haven’t ruled out Management by any means, but I also want to keep an open mind and possibly get my foot in the door with Designer, Collectors, etc. That could potentially mean a move to another store, which would be ok with me. But I need to wait for the right position to come along and in the meantime, continue to persevere and work hard in my current role.

So my advice to anyone who is wanting to get into the Fashion Industry: Just start! Start somewhere and start learning the business and find out what your passion is within YOUR Business. You might find that what you thought you wanted to do, isn’t what you want at all. And keep striving to learn more, always. You can never have enough knowledge about your ‘craft’. Don’t give up. Keep working hard to reach your goals. Don’t try to move on to the next step before you are ready. And finally, keep your head up and your heels high! 👠😘
Thanks for reading my impromptu post, my friends!

Velvet and Corduroy – Seasonal Favorites

Web Hosting

Hello to you all! I haven’t written a post in a little while, so thought it was about that time. Of course, since I’m a true Fashionista, I’m going to write about some of my favorite fashion trends this season – VELVET and CORDUROY! I’m seeing so much velvet and corduroy in pants and jeans especially, and in all different colors! And I’m loving it! I’m taking full advantage of all that’s available and all that I can afford lol!
This season, our favorite premium denim designers are coming out with some delicious colors in velvet and corduroy pants and jeans.
I’ve showcased some of my favorites below that I’ve found so far. Designers include: AG, Paige, Frame, Rag and Bone, J Brand, Seven for All Mankind, Hudson, BlankNYC, Current Elliott, and Topshop, to name just a few.
I have personally tried on a couple of these, including the Seven for All Mankind Velvet Skinny Jeans in ‘Blackened Emerald’. They are magnificent! They are on the thinner side, but oh so comfortable, and soft like butter. The color is very rich too. Perfect for the Holidays! And just a side note on some of these Premium Denim styles…. a lot of them can be found ‘price-matched’ at different competing department stores. <Nordstrom> currently has quite a few that are price-matched right now. But don’t wait too long, as these do sell out fast! Also, if you still don’t want to spend that much on Paige, AG, Frame, etc., you can’t go wrong with the less expensive BlankNYC or TopShop. Both can be found for under $100!

Now, if you really want to get crazy, I’ve also showcased some of my favorite Velvet and Corduroy Styles from Designers like Veronica Beard, Smythe, A.L.C., L’Agence, and Rachel Zoe.
This first picture below features a new line from Smythe Jackets. I just adore this one, as it has velvet with shimmer threads throughout the stripes. So velvet and sparkle – who doesn’t love that?! Working in the Fashion World for a while now, I’ve seen a lot of women elect for a nice pant and blazer set over a dress for parties, charities, weddings, and other black tie events. This set below by Smythe certainly fits the bill!

This next set by Rachel Zoe is also an excellent choice for a velvet pant (and matching blazer). I have purchased a couple of pant and blazer sets from Rachel Zoe and was not disappointed with the quality and fit. It is a bit on the higher end, as pants are about $395 and blazers are about $495, but there are sales occasionally and you do get a discount for signing up on her website. Again, a great choice if you don’t want to wear a dress to a nice event.

This last set is a combination of some favorite corduroy and velvet pants by L’Agence, A.L.C., and Veronica Beard. The quality on all three of these Designers is unsurpassed! You can actually FEEL the difference when you put on one of these items as compared to a lesser option. I have a pair of L’Agence Jeans and A.L.C. Black Pants and the quality and fit is superb. You do get what you pay for! It’s all about preference though. I know some people will elect to purchase a few less expensive items a year as opposed to one or two higher end items like these that will last ten years. I, myself, do a little of both.

L’Agence Jeans!

I hope you enjoyed my post and pictures showcasing my favorite Designers and the VELVET and CORDUROY Trend of the season. Now get dressed and go get yourself one of these amazing items. Or, you can always sit in your pajamas and shop online!
