Modeled Styles Part 3

As you all know, I work at Nordstrom, and I often try on (and purchase!) a lot of the new inventory that comes in. Initially I did it only because it was fun. But I learned that trying on the clothing actually helped me sell it better. I am able to tell clients how things fit and even show them a picture of myself in the dress, too, pants, etc., especially when they are hesitant to even try on ‘because it doesn’t look good on the hanger’. Of course it doesn’t look good on the hanger! What does?! I try to get my clients to try on as many things as possible, because oftentimes, they end up falling in love with and purchasing a dress (or whatever it is), even though they thought it looked terrible on the hanger! My advice is to always try on as much as possible! You never know what you might fall in love with and end up rocking to your next event!

In my Instagram post, I jokingly called this outfit “geek chic”. I’m wearing a Camo top that I wore to work, along with a pair of Seven for All Mankind Jeans with a cool silver shimmery stripe down each side, and my “geek chic” oversized glasses! Loving this!

This next dress is one of my favorite dresses! It’s a deep teal color, very fitted, and I can see it being worn to the office and then straight out to Happy Hour! This dress is by Vince Camuto. The fit is perfect, and if it were on sale, I would have purchased it already. It’s such a versatile dress and can be worn to a number of occasions – weddings, work, happy hour after work, brunch, baby/wedding showers.. you name it, this is THE dress!

Up next is a gorgeous rust colored, polka dot design silk wrap dress by Diane Von Furstenberg. This picture does not do this dress justice at all. It is exquisite! It was originally priced at about $468, but it recently went on sale for just over $200! I was too late though….. it sold out faster than I could push that ‘purchase’ button! So bummed! Whoever was able to get this dress…. Congratulations! You will be enjoying it for a long time! If you did get this dress, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

The dress below is a long, thick velvet gray one-shoulder gown by Eliza J. This is another stunner. Perfect for a Winter Gala or Winter Wedding. I recently sold one to a Mother of the Bride for a December wedding, and she looked so beautiful, it was then that I decided to try the dress on. It is slightly big on me, but we didn’t have the next size down, but you get the idea… I felt so classy and wished I had somewhere to wear this beauty!

The picture below is such a classic style. I paired black pants with side slits (I’m obsessed with this new trend) by A.L.C. with this simple white tank and a gray and black blazer by Treasure and Bond. Then added a layer of pearls, and just like that, a classy, timeless work outfit. This is actually my own and not one I tried on in the store. A.L.C. also has the same style of pants available in a ‘Fluro Pink’ color, which is basically a bright pink color (see below), but not so bright that’s its neon! I’ve seen them in person and I have them in my cart as ‘Saved for Later’… they are very cool!

Sam Edelman yellow velvet pumps! So great for Fall and I can’t wait to wear these beauties. The color is just the right amount of ‘yellow’ to make it beautiful, but not so bright and obnoxious to be turned off by them. You have done it again, my good friend Sam Edelman!

Thanks for reading, as always! I hope you enjoyed this and I would love to get some comments and feedback. Plus, I’d really like to get to know some of you… you never know what friendships can develop like this. Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!

Bucket Lists – Does Anyone Really Follow Through?

Web Hosting

I HAVE started a Bucket List, but then I started to wonder how many people do that (which I’m sure there are a LOT!), BUT, how many people actually make a VALIANT effort to check things off their Bucket List. I’ve even made a Bucket List for my Dog, Scarlet. I think she has more things checked off than I do! I think all of us that do start a Bucket List, of course, have the best of intentions of checking as many things off as they can. But life can get in the way, and so does THE LIST! My list changes and I add (and remove things) sometimes, depending on what my priorities are at that time in my life. And although I work in Fashion and have quite the collection of clothes, shoes, etc….. There isn’t one thing on my list that even refers to GETTING more. I know I’m not taking my clothes with me, but I know I can enjoy them while I’m here.. 😉

Most of my own personal Bucket List has to do with my Career in Fashion and My Life, but like I said, it constantly changes and I’m always adding things. This is (a very small version) of what I have listed right now…

MY BUCKET LIST (** means I’m DOING it or have DONE it):

1. Get into FASHION as my CAREER**
2. Get a Promotion at Work into Designer Clothing (my passion is Designer!)
3. Start a BLOG**
4. Get Awarded ‘ALL-STAR’ at NORDSTROM**
5. Live in MANHATTAN for a few years and work at the new Nordstrom
6. Meet the Love of my Life
7. Get Married
8. Have a child (still undecided about this only because I’m getting older VERY quickly lol).
9. Write a Book
10. Learn how to stay present and enjoy every moment.
10. Hike a 14ner and spend more time Outdoors
11. Gain 15 lbs of Muscle through CrossFit
12. Eat Healthier
13. Take better Care of Myself
14. FEEL Financially Stable
15. Learn to Snowboard
16. Get up the Mountain each Year to Ski/Snowboard at least 4 times
17. Enjoy EVERY moment with my precious Scarlet. She’s not going to be around nearly long enough!**
18. Take my FASHION CAREER to the TOP!
19. Collaborate with a Famous Designer who I Love & Believe in!
20. Read more Books

Bucket Lists? I suppose it’s just a morbid way of saying ‘Goals’ without adding, ‘before you die’!

I’d love to hear what some of your BUCKET LISTS look like and what GOALS you have set for yourself, whether short or long term! Please share!

Thanks for reading, my friends… I hope you enjoyed. And good luck with your Bucket List. You only live once, so check off as many things as you can. Make sure that when your life flashes before your eyes, it’s worth the view!

As I Get Older….

Web Hosting

As I have gotten older, my priorities, dreams, goals, aspirations, and my bucket list have all changed. I suppose that is normal for all of us. For instance, when I was in college at The University of Florida, I had a serious boyfriend…My first true love. I thought we would be together forever. I just KNEW he was ‘THE ONE’ and after college, we would move in together (which we did), and that would eventually lead to marriage and the family I thought I always wanted. Well….that didn’t quite work out the way I had expected. After we broke up, the next 10 years of my life were spent wasting time and wandering aimlessly from place to place, job to job, etc. Fast forward to now, and my life is nothing like I had imagined it would be. I thought I’d be married with 2 or 3 kids and possibly being a stay-at-home mom by now. It’s funny how life DOESN’T turn out the way you expected. I know one day it will be revealed why, and I’m sure I’ll be glad.

Fast forward to today, and it’s 6:00am here in Denver (a place I’d never thought I’d end up living!), I’m having my morning coffee, and writing to you all. I’ll be getting ready for work here soon… It’s obvious now that I work in Fashion. And kind of strange too when I think about it. I was never interested in Fashion when I was younger. I was a competitive swimmer for 10 years and kind of a tomboy. I never really got dressed up, or wore any makeup (or even knew how to apply makeup until I was much older). My Passion for Fashion is something that has developed slowly over the years, and has gotten stronger, until I finally knew that working in Fashion was going to be my career. Now, I live, work, think, and dream about Fashion! And not in that selfish, ‘what will I wear or what can I buy’ kind of way. In the almost 2 years working at Nordstrom, I’ve come a long way! I’ve developed my own edgy sense of style, I’ve learned SO much and will continue to learn, and I’m so grateful to have finally found a job that I’m passionate about and that has so much room to grow into basically whatever I want. I’ve learned that I have a serious Passion for Designer Fashion, and that THAT is where I eventually want to work in. Before working at Nordstrom, there were so many designers I had never even heard of, and now it would be odd to hear a designer and NOT know who that is! I’ve done well in a very short amount of time at Nordstrom, I’ve become the top seller in my department, have many customers that I’ve built relationships with and even made friends with, I’ve gotten the coveted All-Star Award, which is basically the highest honor you can get at Nordstrom. However, I feel like I have so much more potential that isn’t being utilized right now. But, I’m not writing any of this to brag about my accomplishments. It’s actually quite the opposite. The quote below basically sums up the way I feel about my career. I finally feel Peace and now know I’m where I’m supposed to be.

Before Fashion, I always felt like something was missing in my life and every job felt wrong. I didn’t want to go through my whole life working a job that I had absolutely no passion for. I finally feel at Peace knowing that I have at least found my dream career, if nothing else! And like the quote below, it REALLY is a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together. I know that doesn’t happen for a lot of people, so I feel very blessed.

Life is still not perfect by any means… I am still single, I don’t have the boyfriend/husband/kids that I always thought I wanted. I’m still not convinced that I want that, or if I’ve been ‘taught’ to THINK I want that. It’s hard enough juggling my job, spending time with my friends, working out, eating well, etc. Throw in kids and a husband, and I don’t know that I would have found this career, or been happy with the things I just mentioned, which are the things I always THOUGHT I wanted! Maybe I’m just not ready for those things yet, so in the meantime, I’m going to make everything I can of this great career, because the sky is the limit. Again, funny how things DON’T work out the way I thought they would!

So, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned it’s ok to be single, and have learned (or rather, am learning), to accept this. Maybe I’ll meet the man of my dreams tomorrow. Or maybe it may take a little longer. I have learned it’s not as easy as it used to be, and he’s not going to come knock on my door. I have to put myself out there more. But, I’m just going to do my thing and focus on my career. I don’t know what God or the Universe has in store for me, so I’m just going to to have faith and BELIEVE that there’s a bigger plan! There are some perks and drawbacks to being single, but I’m going to do my best to focus on the positive! I still can’t imagine that God would plan for me to be alone forever. Plus, I’m not alone… I have Scarlet!

I’ve also learned that life is too short…. So buy the shoes, go on that vacation, spend more time with your family and friends (pet family included), train for that marathon, hike that 14ner, go somewhere you’ve never been, don’t waste time (but relax when you need to), and spend every moment being GRATEFUL that you get to live in this beautiful, albeit flawed, world, and never take advantage of time. It goes by so fast…..

As far as my Bucket List, that’s a whole other post in general. Spoiler Alert – NYC is part of that plan.. so stay tuned!

Pre-Photo Shoot — ‘Glam Meets Grunge’

Web Hosting

I am doing a very cool photo shoot soon (Thursday Oct. 4th!) that basically will showcase myself wearing some of my Designer Clothing. I’ve had this vision for quite some time now… It’s basically a ‘Glam Meets Grunge’ photo shoot (will elaborate shortly), and I am finally doing it! The vision I had was to showcase some of my Designer Items in an Industrial area of downtown Denver with old dilapidated buildings, dirt roads, and train tracks in the background. The photographer found just what I had envisioned and is actually excited to do this shoot, and I think, impressed with my vision!
Below are some features of the outfits I put together for the shoot. My next post will be the finished product and the best pics! I am pretty excited and nervous, although I feel a bit better now that I have my outfits…

In this first picture below, I’ll be wearing both dresses with my Prada Combat Boots. I probably won’t wear jewelry in these, as the dresses and boots pretty much speak for themselves and I don’t want to take away from the focus on them.

In this picture below, I’ll be wearing the White Sequin Dress the Population Dress and walking barefoot with train tracks in the background and holding my Sam Edelman heels. I’ll wear some minimal Alexander McQueen Jewelry and possibly a pair of the sunglasses shown below.

This outfit below will be worn as such: Smythe Blazer with the Black Free People Bodysuit, Gold Snake Necklace, and Calvin Klein Black Leather Knee High Boots – And that’s it! I want to show off the blazer, because it is exquisite, so I’m basically just wearing that. I’m wearing the Bodysuit just to make sure my lower half is covered! I’m not trying to show it all, ya know?! I think that this will look very cool though!

My final outfit will be the Red RtA Leather Pants with my Black Gucci Belt, Alexander McQueen Neck Scarf, probably a sheer Black Bodysuit with either a plain Black Bra or Black Bralette. I included the Valentino Heels that I MAY wear, but I also may just pair with some plain Black Heels to keep it simple.

Here is what I have envisioned for the location. This is the ‘Grunge’ part of my shoot! I don’t know exactly what it looks like yet, but the photographer told me there were train tracks and an old warehouse, which is perfect! Also, combining high-end Designer Items like DVF, Prada, RtA, etc., above is just the juxtaposition I was looking for!

My outfits that I have picked are tentative and may change slightly prior to the shoot, so make sure to check back for the finished product..

Wish me luck on this photo shoot. I have to go get everything put together and practice what Tyra Banks calls “Smizing“, which is smiling with your eyes. And so far I’m not too good at that. I either smile, or I just look mean when I try to smile with my eyes! I did some modeling when I was much younger, but it was mostly Runway Modeling because I was tall and had a good walk, and usually you don’t have to smile much in runway shows, depending on what the designer wants you to do. But photos are much different, and this isn’t really a shoot I can be having a big smile on my face the whole time – that doesn’t really go with the theme. So I’ll be practicing my ‘smizing’ in the mirror up until the shoot lol. Hopefully I can master it! If any professional models out there have any advice on this, please feel free to leave a comment! I’d love any feedback..💕

Thanks again for reading, as always, and stay tuned for the final professional pictures when the shoot is done!

My Work ‘Uniforms’

Web Hosting

I wanted to share one of the joys I have with my job in the Fashion World. Since I work at Nordstrom as a Stylist/Sales Associate, I have the opportunity to be around beautiful clothes all day long (yeah, I know… good for my style, not so good for my paycheck😉). But that’s a whole other story. One would think that working at a high end department store like Nordstrom would require a certain ‘look’ or ‘clothing requirement’, but it’s actually quite the opposite! They give us great liberty in our clothing and style choices and want us to express ourselves with our clothing and personal style. They also don’t discriminate against tattoos or piercings, etc. (within reason, of course). When I first started working there, I asked my new manager if there were any dress requirements or any ‘no’s’ as far as what I could NOT wear to work. She explained that Nordstrom was pretty lenient, but to use good judgment. So of course, I took that and ran! I didn’t have to dress a certain way or wear anything I wouldn’t normally wear! I could pretty much wear whatever I wanted, aside from pants with holes in the butt or crop tops or skirts that were WAY too short, which I wouldn’t wear to work anyways, or anywhere else for that matter. I have an EDGY style, not a SLUTTY style 🙀!
Since working at Nordstrom for almost 2 years now, I’ve really ‘come into my own’ as far as my style goes. I know who I am and what I like to wear, what I feel good in, and I’ve developed a personal style like none other. So many of my Associates know my style so well, that they will bring me certain items from their own departments and just plop them in front of me and walk away, which I know just means that they think I would like that piece and/or it’s totally my style. I always say I have an ‘Edgy Style’, but I think I really have a ‘Classy Style with an Edge’. I love to dress up designer denim with a cool blazer and heels, and add some YSL or Alexander McQueen jewelry to give my outfit that extra something special. Yesterday I showed my manager a dress by Gal Meets Glam that I thought was pretty, but maybe a bit too ‘sweet’ for me, and asked her if she liked the dress for me. She said she loved the dress, but if it was going to be for me, she said I’d need to add something edgy to make it a little more ‘me’… totally made sense!
Here are some of my favorite outfits I’ve gotten to wear to work:
Veronica Beard Blazer

Alexander McQueen Neck Scarf and Double Ring

Alexander Wang Denim jacket, Alexander McQueen neck scarf, Red True Religion Jeans, simple Black Top, Black Gucci Belt, and A.S.98 Black Boots

White Mural Blazer, Halogen Mock Neck Burgundy Tank, and Sam Edelman Black Heels

Tularoosa Blazer and True Religion Jeans

Gucci ‘Vintage’ Sneakers

DVF Black Blouse & L’Agence Jeans

DVF Yellow Shimmer Blouse with L’Agence Jeans

I purchased the collection below by Rachel Zoe, but have yet to wear them to work. I may need to get an some alterations first before wearing these beauties!

I also purchased the items below by Derek Lam, Bailey 44, and David Lerner. I wore the David Lerner black striped leggings so far, but the other items I’d like to wear when the weather gets a little cooler. We are still in an unusually hot Summer here in Denver ( up to 100 degrees – STILL!).

Vince Camuto Blazer, Halogen White Top, Balmain red heels, Gucci Belt, and Gold Snake Necklace

Mural Black Blazer, Gray Ribbed Dress, and my new favorite heels by Sam Edelman (Also got the nude after they went on sale!)

Alexander Wang Denim Jacket over Gray Ribbed Dress

Red Bodysuit, Frame Jeans, Gucci belt, and Silver Snake Long Necklace

Black TopShop Bodysuit, AG Jeans, and Red Leith Sock Booties

BOSS Suit

Ted Baker Dress

Leopard print top and True Religion Jeans

And my latest obsession is this Marc Jacobs Denim Mickey Jacket, which I can’t stop thinking about. I’m not a huge Mickey fan, but the jacket is so cool, unique, and edgy, that I may end up just going for it!

OK, that was just a small feature on some of my fave outfits that I wear to work, with this last pic being something I’d really like to get. We’ll see if the budget can handle this….
I’m always taking pictures of inventory that arrives at work. I’ll post more later, and continue to post my work outfits as well.
Thanks for reading, my friends!
Stay tuned for more stylish outfits!
