Good morning, my dear Fashion Lovers!

This holiday season, like every other, we are getting ready for holiday parties, picking out our outfits for New Year’s Eve, and buying dresses for all the festivities that are coming. We need to look our best, and for some, this is a daunting task. The Dress Department at Nordstrom is one of the Departments I work in, and many women are coming in with that look on their face…. you know the one…. the look that says, “I have to get a pretty dress and wear it to this stupid party, and I’m miserable and don’t want to be here!” I had 2 women just yesterday who came in back-to-back with this look. I ended up helping them both find dresses they liked and were comfortable in, but it was definitely a difficult task just because of the mind-set they were in when they arrived. They left very happy though!

But when did getting dressed up for parties, and going to parties in general become such a chore?? I, myself, feel the opposite. I wish I had MORE parties to go to so I can buy more beautiful dresses! Just the other day, I tried on this gorgeous Dress the Population Fuchsia Velvet and sequined Dress and I didn’t buy it because I have no where to wear it…such a travesty! I do suppose I understand not really wanting to go to parties. The older I get, the more of a home-body I’ve become. But I still really like to get dressed up every now and then! I guess I just like beautiful dresses and clothes, but not necessarily the parties that go along with them (pictures the ‘FRIENDS’ episode where the girls are sitting around the apartment in wedding dresses eating junk food and drinking beer…).

I’ve seen this season that a lot of women have elected to wear a jumpsuit or nice pants and blazer instead of a dress, which is a great alternative to those who don’t like dresses. See pictures below:

I even love shoes and boots that have shimmer and sequins. These beauties are actually from DSW and I got them for a great price. They are also really comfortable, believe it or not. I like to pair boots like this with a fairly plain outfit so the boots are the focal piece. You don’t want to pair ‘sparkle on sparkle’ unless that’s the look you’re going for and it looks just right. There IS such thing as too much sparkle! I know, hard to believe, right?!

These sequined boots below are by Steve Madden . These boots are gorgeous, but not the most practical boots in the world. But Style isn’t always practical.. I had to go up a full size from my normal size, and I also about killed myself trying to walk in them for the first time because they were so slippery. They are also very snug around the ankles, and I have very thin ankles and calves. So keep that in mind if planning on purchasing these. And make sure to scuff up the bottoms before you go out in public. Death by boots is probably a fitting way for me to die lol (but not really lol!)

I bought this super comfortable and very reasonably priced mini bronze/black shimmer dress by Row A at Nordstrom . I have no idea where I’ll wear it, but NYE comes to mind first. My girlfriend even took a video of me ‘walking the runway’ to really show off the dress!

This next dress is by Dress the Population , one of my favorite Designers, in part because of his use of sequins! This particular style is a personal favorite because of the amazing fit and the sequin fringe bottom. It literally makes you want to twirl the entire time! And it’s a known fact that twirling creates feelings of pure joy, as seen in the second picture below. This is definitely a statement-maker dress.. it also comes in a beautiful cobalt blue and silver.

This last dress is also by Dress the Population. The colors of the sequins are extraordinary – bronze, gold, rose gold, silver – brilliant! If you’ve never tried a Dress the Population dress or jumpsuit before, I highly recommend that you do. Even if you aren’t into shimmer and sequins, they have other styles as well. I, obviously, am into the sequined styles. You can find these dresses at their own personal site, Dress the Population or at select Nordstrom’s and Nordstrom Online .

And lastly, here are some sparkly, shimmery, glittery, sequined styles that can be found at sites like Revolve , Forward , and Nordstrom . If you are hesitant to try a sequined Style, whether it be because of body image issues, or maybe you think it ‘just isn’t your style’…. To both, I say OWN IT! Wear whatever you like and whatever makes you feel amazing!

Thank you so much for reading my post today. I hope you enjoyed it as well as the pictures. And I hope I’ve inspired some of you to get in the ‘Sparkle Spirit’!

Five Fall Essentials to Get Through the Cold Weather

Web Hosting

With Fall finally right upon us, I cannot even tell you how excited I am to start wearing my Fall and Winter clothes again. I’m originally from Florida and lived most of my life there, so this girl never experienced any kind of season changes. When I moved to Denver, I think I was most excited about finally getting to purchase and wear Winter clothing! And sure, living in Florida (South Florida, mind you), we had the occasional cold front and couple of days where the temperatures would drop below 70 degrees. But for the most part, it was either hot and humid, or REALLY hot and humid year-round. Christmases were often spent in shorts, and I never received a Winter coat, mittens, or winter hat as a gift. I always felt like I lived in the wrong place! When the economy crashed in ’08/’09, my mom and I had the opportunity to move to Denver. My mom asked if I’d be interested in moving to Denver, and I said, “I’ll start packing!” I can without a doubt say that it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made as a family. It’s almost 10 years later, and I still look forward to Fall and Snow, and most importantly, the Fashion! However, when it was time to buy my first Winter cost, no one told me there was a difference between a ‘stylish’ coat and a ‘warm’ coat… I had to learn that lesson the hard way!

1. Blazers

Of course this would be first on my list because I’m having a major love affair with blazers right now. Smythe Jackets (1st & 2nd pics), Veronica Beard (3rd & 4th pics), and Rachel Zoe (5th pic) have some amazing blazers, if you don’t mind paying the high price tags. They are certainly worth it and these blazers are such high quality and will last you forever. They are an investment, but worth it in my opinion.

2. Pants and Jeans

Again, I’ve featured some items by Veronica Beard. I also featured the green dress pants by DVF.. I tried these pants on in the store in my size and they were wonderful and long enough for my 5’9″ frame and super long legs. Veronica Beard’s pants are also very long.

And then a favorite pair of mine are these wool blend Tuxedo Pants by Alexander McQueen. These are quite the pretty penny, but I keep hoping they will go on sale. They are currently $1,500, and they look incredible! They are also very warm, as they are made of a wool blend fabric.

And of course, some cool leather pants are a must! I highly recommend the ‘Prince’ Leather Pant by RtA. They come in different colors and are soft as butter!

I’ve also included a ‘Pants and Jeans’ Board with a compilation of some of my favorites. Designers include: A.L.C., Versace, Veronica Beard, Paige, TopShop, and Citizens of Humanity.

3. Sweaters

We definitely need a collection of all different kinds of sweaters, from thick to thinner. One of my favorites is this Ivory Sweater by Treasure and Bond. It also comes in a few different colors and is very stylish and versatile.

I’ve also included a ‘Style Board’ with a compilation of some of my favorite Sweaters. Designers below include: Leith, Halogen, Rails, TopShop, Ted Baker, Treasure and Bond, and Rag and Bone.

4. Boots and Booties

Need I say more??

Boots are definitely a must for Fall and Winter, but the Bootie is making a larger-than-life comeback. Booties have never gone OUT of style, but I’ve seen more and more styles of Booties this year than ever. So a couple good pairs of booties are a must-have in your shoe wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorites:

Can you tell I love sequins?! But it’s party season! We’ve got holiday parties, New Years Eve parties, and office parties to go to…. and we’ve got to shimmer and shine to get in the spirit!
My ‘Style Boards’ below include the following Designers: Dress the Population, Tadashi Shoji, Eliza J, Off-White, Self Portrait, Caroline Constas, Xscape, JS Collections, Veronica Beard, Vince Camuto, Carmen Marc Valvo Infusion, and Monique Lhuillier.

My first picture for Coats is this gorgeous Gallery Chocolate Coat… It is pure perfection and I can’t wait to wear it this year!

My ‘Style Board’ for Coats and Jackets below include the following Designers: J. Crew, YSL, Patagonia, The North Face, Badgley Mischka, Kenneth Cole, and Kristen Blake.

Thanks for reading, my friends! I absolutely love writing this Blog and am so excited I started doing it….Finally! I enjoy reading all of your posts and seeing everyone’s pictures and writing styles too. I hope you enjoy mine as well and I’d love to hear from you!😘

My Photo Shoot – “Glam Meets Grunge”

Web Hosting

I wanted to share with you all something I’ve never done before, but something I’ve always wanted to do. I haven’t done a photo shoot in the past out of fear, insecurity, not really knowing who I was or what type of style I had, but I think mostly it was fear. And, had a good friend not gone with me for support, it’s very possible I would have backed out. I got incredibly nervous and anxious right before leaving to go to the photo shoot too. I was actually terrified! I thought, “What if I’m terrible at this? What if I’m not confident and it shows? What if I fail?” Well, I did it! And I’m SO glad I didn’t back out… I even have more ideas and want to do it again with more of my Designer Clothing!

Here are some preview pics that my friend took during the shoot:

I work in Fashion and I am very passionate about Designer Clothing specifically. So I have a lot of Designer clothing that I’ve always wanted to showcase in some way. I started thinking about it, and because I have an edgy sense of style, I had this idea of wearing some of my premium Designer items but having the photos taken in some sort of grungy, industrial area of Denver. The photographer I had picked loved that idea and found the absolute perfect spot! It was to be the setting for my “GLAM MEETS GRUNGE” photo shoot! Here is my first photo… I showcased my Smythe Blazer with my Black Free People Plunge Bodysuit, and my OTK Calvin Klein Leather Boots. And…. that’s all for that outfit!!🙀

My next outfit was my RtA Red Leather ‘Prince’ Shimmer Pants, Black Gucci Belt, my Marc Jacobs Denim Jacket, and again, my OTK Calvin Klein Boots. We took lots of shots in this outfit, so I’m excited to see how the others turned out. I’ll post a couple more when I get them all back. We did some shots of me sitting casually and looking off in the distance. The sun was perfect at that time, so I imagine the pants will really pop and shimmer in some of those pics. On the way to the shoot, I commented to my friend that I kind of wanted the weather to be dark and gloomy because I imagined that would look better with the theme and image in my head. She said, “no, this is the best time to shoot with the sun out like this because you get better shots with this better light…”. I didn’t know that! But makes sense now! The photographer showed me some of the shots as we were working showing the difference in how the pictures looked when the sun would go behind the clouds as opposed to being straight sun, and my friend was definitely right! The pictures looked so much better with the sun out as opposed to when it wasn’t. So I learned something new that should have been obvious…. better light, better pictures!

Next I showcased my unbelievably gorgeous blue/indigo colored sequined dress by Diane Von Furstenberg paired with my Prada Combat Boots.

This might be one of my favorite pictures so far! The way the light shines on the dress and makes it pop looks so amazing. And somehow I managed to NOT frown in every photo. I practiced for about a week before how to smile with just my eyes… I don’t know if I accomplished that, but at least I’m not frowning lol.

Next I wore my Velvet NBD dress from Revolve along with the Prada Combat Boots again. I adore this dress and hope I get to wear it somewhere soon. As you can see, it has a deep plunging v-neckline and deep slit, and i didn’t wear a bra, so I had to keep looking down to make sure I wasn’t ‘popping’ out of it! If I ever get the chance to really wear this dress, I’ll need some sticky tape or something so I can enjoy the evening without worrying about coming out of the dress!

In this first picture in this dress, the photographer had me walk towards him with a determined look on my face. I was pretty pleased with how this turned out too. And again, I’m not really frowning but not smiling either, so mission accomplished! I really wanted some shots with the train tracks in the background, so I’m really happy we could get some of those!

All in all, it was a pretty fun and exciting Photo Shoot. After we started, my nerves calmed down and I am very pleased with how his pics turned out. There will be many more pics coming once he’s done editing, so I’ll add more good pics when I get them back..

The next pics are just close-up pics of the same pics above that I edited myself so you could see my face and outfit better:

Halfway through this shoot after I calmed down and saw a preview of how the pics were looking, I jokingly made a comment that I thought I should switch careers and be a model since I was clearly an amazing model (hahaha just kidding😉)!

Stay tuned for some more pics and possibly another shoot with different outfits and setting!

Thanks for reading and checking out my pictures… I’d love to see your comments and hear any feedback!

Modeled Styles Part 3

Web Hosting

As you all know, I work at Nordstrom, and I often try on (and purchase!) a lot of the new inventory that comes in. Initially I did it only because it was fun. But I learned that trying on the clothing actually helped me sell it better. I am able to tell clients how things fit and even show them a picture of myself in the dress, too, pants, etc., especially when they are hesitant to even try on ‘because it doesn’t look good on the hanger’. Of course it doesn’t look good on the hanger! What does?! I try to get my clients to try on as many things as possible, because oftentimes, they end up falling in love with and purchasing a dress (or whatever it is), even though they thought it looked terrible on the hanger! My advice is to always try on as much as possible! You never know what you might fall in love with and end up rocking to your next event!

In my Instagram post, I jokingly called this outfit “geek chic”. I’m wearing a Camo top that I wore to work, along with a pair of Seven for All Mankind Jeans with a cool silver shimmery stripe down each side, and my “geek chic” oversized glasses! Loving this!

This next dress is one of my favorite dresses! It’s a deep teal color, very fitted, and I can see it being worn to the office and then straight out to Happy Hour! This dress is by Vince Camuto. The fit is perfect, and if it were on sale, I would have purchased it already. It’s such a versatile dress and can be worn to a number of occasions – weddings, work, happy hour after work, brunch, baby/wedding showers.. you name it, this is THE dress!

Up next is a gorgeous rust colored, polka dot design silk wrap dress by Diane Von Furstenberg. This picture does not do this dress justice at all. It is exquisite! It was originally priced at about $468, but it recently went on sale for just over $200! I was too late though….. it sold out faster than I could push that ‘purchase’ button! So bummed! Whoever was able to get this dress…. Congratulations! You will be enjoying it for a long time! If you did get this dress, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

The dress below is a long, thick velvet gray one-shoulder gown by Eliza J. This is another stunner. Perfect for a Winter Gala or Winter Wedding. I recently sold one to a Mother of the Bride for a December wedding, and she looked so beautiful, it was then that I decided to try the dress on. It is slightly big on me, but we didn’t have the next size down, but you get the idea… I felt so classy and wished I had somewhere to wear this beauty!

The picture below is such a classic style. I paired black pants with side slits (I’m obsessed with this new trend) by A.L.C. with this simple white tank and a gray and black blazer by Treasure and Bond. Then added a layer of pearls, and just like that, a classy, timeless work outfit. This is actually my own and not one I tried on in the store. A.L.C. also has the same style of pants available in a ‘Fluro Pink’ color, which is basically a bright pink color (see below), but not so bright that’s its neon! I’ve seen them in person and I have them in my cart as ‘Saved for Later’… they are very cool!

Sam Edelman yellow velvet pumps! So great for Fall and I can’t wait to wear these beauties. The color is just the right amount of ‘yellow’ to make it beautiful, but not so bright and obnoxious to be turned off by them. You have done it again, my good friend Sam Edelman!

Thanks for reading, as always! I hope you enjoyed this and I would love to get some comments and feedback. Plus, I’d really like to get to know some of you… you never know what friendships can develop like this. Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!

My Work ‘Uniforms’

Web Hosting

I wanted to share one of the joys I have with my job in the Fashion World. Since I work at Nordstrom as a Stylist/Sales Associate, I have the opportunity to be around beautiful clothes all day long (yeah, I know… good for my style, not so good for my paycheck😉). But that’s a whole other story. One would think that working at a high end department store like Nordstrom would require a certain ‘look’ or ‘clothing requirement’, but it’s actually quite the opposite! They give us great liberty in our clothing and style choices and want us to express ourselves with our clothing and personal style. They also don’t discriminate against tattoos or piercings, etc. (within reason, of course). When I first started working there, I asked my new manager if there were any dress requirements or any ‘no’s’ as far as what I could NOT wear to work. She explained that Nordstrom was pretty lenient, but to use good judgment. So of course, I took that and ran! I didn’t have to dress a certain way or wear anything I wouldn’t normally wear! I could pretty much wear whatever I wanted, aside from pants with holes in the butt or crop tops or skirts that were WAY too short, which I wouldn’t wear to work anyways, or anywhere else for that matter. I have an EDGY style, not a SLUTTY style 🙀!
Since working at Nordstrom for almost 2 years now, I’ve really ‘come into my own’ as far as my style goes. I know who I am and what I like to wear, what I feel good in, and I’ve developed a personal style like none other. So many of my Associates know my style so well, that they will bring me certain items from their own departments and just plop them in front of me and walk away, which I know just means that they think I would like that piece and/or it’s totally my style. I always say I have an ‘Edgy Style’, but I think I really have a ‘Classy Style with an Edge’. I love to dress up designer denim with a cool blazer and heels, and add some YSL or Alexander McQueen jewelry to give my outfit that extra something special. Yesterday I showed my manager a dress by Gal Meets Glam that I thought was pretty, but maybe a bit too ‘sweet’ for me, and asked her if she liked the dress for me. She said she loved the dress, but if it was going to be for me, she said I’d need to add something edgy to make it a little more ‘me’… totally made sense!
Here are some of my favorite outfits I’ve gotten to wear to work:
Veronica Beard Blazer

Alexander McQueen Neck Scarf and Double Ring

Alexander Wang Denim jacket, Alexander McQueen neck scarf, Red True Religion Jeans, simple Black Top, Black Gucci Belt, and A.S.98 Black Boots

White Mural Blazer, Halogen Mock Neck Burgundy Tank, and Sam Edelman Black Heels

Tularoosa Blazer and True Religion Jeans

Gucci ‘Vintage’ Sneakers

DVF Black Blouse & L’Agence Jeans

DVF Yellow Shimmer Blouse with L’Agence Jeans

I purchased the collection below by Rachel Zoe, but have yet to wear them to work. I may need to get an some alterations first before wearing these beauties!

I also purchased the items below by Derek Lam, Bailey 44, and David Lerner. I wore the David Lerner black striped leggings so far, but the other items I’d like to wear when the weather gets a little cooler. We are still in an unusually hot Summer here in Denver ( up to 100 degrees – STILL!).

Vince Camuto Blazer, Halogen White Top, Balmain red heels, Gucci Belt, and Gold Snake Necklace

Mural Black Blazer, Gray Ribbed Dress, and my new favorite heels by Sam Edelman (Also got the nude after they went on sale!)

Alexander Wang Denim Jacket over Gray Ribbed Dress

Red Bodysuit, Frame Jeans, Gucci belt, and Silver Snake Long Necklace

Black TopShop Bodysuit, AG Jeans, and Red Leith Sock Booties

Ted Baker Dress

Leopard print top and True Religion Jeans

And my latest obsession is this Marc Jacobs Denim Mickey Jacket, which I can’t stop thinking about. I’m not a huge Mickey fan, but the jacket is so cool, unique, and edgy, that I may end up just going for it!

OK, that was just a small feature on some of my fave outfits that I wear to work, with this last pic being something I’d really like to get. We’ll see if the budget can handle this….
I’m always taking pictures of inventory that arrives at work. I’ll post more later, and continue to post my work outfits as well.
Thanks for reading, my friends!
Stay tuned for more stylish outfits!
