Good morning, my dear Fashion Lovers!

This holiday season, like every other, we are getting ready for holiday parties, picking out our outfits for New Year’s Eve, and buying dresses for all the festivities that are coming. We need to look our best, and for some, this is a daunting task. The Dress Department at Nordstrom is one of the Departments I work in, and many women are coming in with that look on their face…. you know the one…. the look that says, “I have to get a pretty dress and wear it to this stupid party, and I’m miserable and don’t want to be here!” I had 2 women just yesterday who came in back-to-back with this look. I ended up helping them both find dresses they liked and were comfortable in, but it was definitely a difficult task just because of the mind-set they were in when they arrived. They left very happy though!

But when did getting dressed up for parties, and going to parties in general become such a chore?? I, myself, feel the opposite. I wish I had MORE parties to go to so I can buy more beautiful dresses! Just the other day, I tried on this gorgeous Dress the Population Fuchsia Velvet and sequined Dress and I didn’t buy it because I have no where to wear it…such a travesty! I do suppose I understand not really wanting to go to parties. The older I get, the more of a home-body I’ve become. But I still really like to get dressed up every now and then! I guess I just like beautiful dresses and clothes, but not necessarily the parties that go along with them (pictures the ‘FRIENDS’ episode where the girls are sitting around the apartment in wedding dresses eating junk food and drinking beer…).

I’ve seen this season that a lot of women have elected to wear a jumpsuit or nice pants and blazer instead of a dress, which is a great alternative to those who don’t like dresses. See pictures below:

I even love shoes and boots that have shimmer and sequins. These beauties are actually from DSW and I got them for a great price. They are also really comfortable, believe it or not. I like to pair boots like this with a fairly plain outfit so the boots are the focal piece. You don’t want to pair ‘sparkle on sparkle’ unless that’s the look you’re going for and it looks just right. There IS such thing as too much sparkle! I know, hard to believe, right?!

These sequined boots below are by Steve Madden . These boots are gorgeous, but not the most practical boots in the world. But Style isn’t always practical.. I had to go up a full size from my normal size, and I also about killed myself trying to walk in them for the first time because they were so slippery. They are also very snug around the ankles, and I have very thin ankles and calves. So keep that in mind if planning on purchasing these. And make sure to scuff up the bottoms before you go out in public. Death by boots is probably a fitting way for me to die lol (but not really lol!)

I bought this super comfortable and very reasonably priced mini bronze/black shimmer dress by Row A at Nordstrom . I have no idea where I’ll wear it, but NYE comes to mind first. My girlfriend even took a video of me ‘walking the runway’ to really show off the dress!

This next dress is by Dress the Population , one of my favorite Designers, in part because of his use of sequins! This particular style is a personal favorite because of the amazing fit and the sequin fringe bottom. It literally makes you want to twirl the entire time! And it’s a known fact that twirling creates feelings of pure joy, as seen in the second picture below. This is definitely a statement-maker dress.. it also comes in a beautiful cobalt blue and silver.

This last dress is also by Dress the Population. The colors of the sequins are extraordinary – bronze, gold, rose gold, silver – brilliant! If you’ve never tried a Dress the Population dress or jumpsuit before, I highly recommend that you do. Even if you aren’t into shimmer and sequins, they have other styles as well. I, obviously, am into the sequined styles. You can find these dresses at their own personal site, Dress the Population or at select Nordstrom’s and Nordstrom Online .

And lastly, here are some sparkly, shimmery, glittery, sequined styles that can be found at sites like Revolve , Forward , and Nordstrom . If you are hesitant to try a sequined Style, whether it be because of body image issues, or maybe you think it ‘just isn’t your style’…. To both, I say OWN IT! Wear whatever you like and whatever makes you feel amazing!

Thank you so much for reading my post today. I hope you enjoyed it as well as the pictures. And I hope I’ve inspired some of you to get in the ‘Sparkle Spirit’!

Velvet and Corduroy – Seasonal Favorites

Web Hosting

Hello to you all! I haven’t written a post in a little while, so thought it was about that time. Of course, since I’m a true Fashionista, I’m going to write about some of my favorite fashion trends this season – VELVET and CORDUROY! I’m seeing so much velvet and corduroy in pants and jeans especially, and in all different colors! And I’m loving it! I’m taking full advantage of all that’s available and all that I can afford lol!
This season, our favorite premium denim designers are coming out with some delicious colors in velvet and corduroy pants and jeans.
I’ve showcased some of my favorites below that I’ve found so far. Designers include: AG, Paige, Frame, Rag and Bone, J Brand, Seven for All Mankind, Hudson, BlankNYC, Current Elliott, and Topshop, to name just a few.
I have personally tried on a couple of these, including the Seven for All Mankind Velvet Skinny Jeans in ‘Blackened Emerald’. They are magnificent! They are on the thinner side, but oh so comfortable, and soft like butter. The color is very rich too. Perfect for the Holidays! And just a side note on some of these Premium Denim styles…. a lot of them can be found ‘price-matched’ at different competing department stores. <Nordstrom> currently has quite a few that are price-matched right now. But don’t wait too long, as these do sell out fast! Also, if you still don’t want to spend that much on Paige, AG, Frame, etc., you can’t go wrong with the less expensive BlankNYC or TopShop. Both can be found for under $100!

Now, if you really want to get crazy, I’ve also showcased some of my favorite Velvet and Corduroy Styles from Designers like Veronica Beard, Smythe, A.L.C., L’Agence, and Rachel Zoe.
This first picture below features a new line from Smythe Jackets. I just adore this one, as it has velvet with shimmer threads throughout the stripes. So velvet and sparkle – who doesn’t love that?! Working in the Fashion World for a while now, I’ve seen a lot of women elect for a nice pant and blazer set over a dress for parties, charities, weddings, and other black tie events. This set below by Smythe certainly fits the bill!

This next set by Rachel Zoe is also an excellent choice for a velvet pant (and matching blazer). I have purchased a couple of pant and blazer sets from Rachel Zoe and was not disappointed with the quality and fit. It is a bit on the higher end, as pants are about $395 and blazers are about $495, but there are sales occasionally and you do get a discount for signing up on her website. Again, a great choice if you don’t want to wear a dress to a nice event.

This last set is a combination of some favorite corduroy and velvet pants by L’Agence, A.L.C., and Veronica Beard. The quality on all three of these Designers is unsurpassed! You can actually FEEL the difference when you put on one of these items as compared to a lesser option. I have a pair of L’Agence Jeans and A.L.C. Black Pants and the quality and fit is superb. You do get what you pay for! It’s all about preference though. I know some people will elect to purchase a few less expensive items a year as opposed to one or two higher end items like these that will last ten years. I, myself, do a little of both.

L’Agence Jeans!

I hope you enjoyed my post and pictures showcasing my favorite Designers and the VELVET and CORDUROY Trend of the season. Now get dressed and go get yourself one of these amazing items. Or, you can always sit in your pajamas and shop online!

5 Types of Shoes Every Girl Needs in Her Wardrobe

Web Hosting

Hello, my friends! Happy Friday… woohoo! Please tell me what your plans are for the weekend… I’d love some ideas from you for myself as well!
I was thinking about what to write about next, and it suddenly occurred to me that I needed to write about shoes! I’m a crazy ‘Shoe Addict’, so why have I not written about shoes yet?! I do have some authority on this subject because I am a crazy shoe person. I also live in Colorado now, where many types of shoes are required throughout the year. And, of course, I live and work FASHION! I’m always giving advice to people about the best shoes to wear with a particular outfit. And my closet has a literal ‘Wall of Shoes’ in it. The picture below is from when my closet was first designed. I always knew I wanted a ‘Wall of Shoes’, so that was my first priority in the design of my closet! This picture was taken about 5 years ago when the closet was first built, so I’ll post another below it of what it looks like now… Hint: All different shoes!😉

Picture of my shoe wall now…Notice that there are about 10 boxes of new shoes that I have no space for on my shoe wall! I think I need to do some purging and donate or sell shoes I don’t really wear anymore!

Ok, back to my topic.. here is my list of the 5 groups of shoes that all girls need in their wardrobe:

1. Heels and Pumps:

We all need some killer heels in our wardrobe, in a variety of colors. Below is a pair of Red Balmain heels that I was able to get at a phenomenal price at Nordstrom. The heel height is only about 2 inches, so they are easy to walk in and very comfortable as well.

Next is a favorite pair of everyday heels that I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. They are by Sam Edelman and I find them to be very comfortable and true to size. They also have a little bit of added ‘edge’ to them with the studs around the sides. I loved these so much that I also got the nude pair when they finally went on sale again. We all need reliable pairs of black and nude heels that are comfortable and can be worn all day. I probably wear these heels the most, as they are the most versatile. These Sam Edelman Heels are on sale right now for about $55 at Nordstrom! I highly recommend!👠👠

And here is another pair of Electric Blue Stud Heels by Sam Edelman as well. His shoes just seem to fit my feet very well. These are certainly edgy, and they also come in black if you like this style but don’t want to go with this bold color.

2. Boots and Booties:

Boots and Booties are probably my favorite type of shoe to purchase and talk about! I love them! I just bought the Valentino Suede ‘Rockstud’ Bootie and they are fabulous. The heel height isn’t too high and they are pretty comfortable too. I would definitely size up if it says to though. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5, and I had to size up to a 9 in these. These are super sexy, yet still classy, and still have that edge that I like with the studs. Save your money for these. They are a great investment!

Below is a pair of Red Boots that I got quite some time ago at DSW. They were a great price, and every girl needs a pair of Red Boots. I also got the Silver Shimmer Pair shown below as well. I just can’t say no to anything that sparkles!

And then a pair or 2 of Black Boots are also a necessity in every girl’s shoe closet. The pair below is AS 98, which I purchased at a FreeBird Store for 70% off! There are some great deals out there on great boots….You just have to do some research and look. Luckily, I work at Nordstrom, so I get to see all the new styles coming in…

I did just splurge a bit on these Prada Combat Boots below, which I just received in the mail! I’ve wanted a cool pair of combat boots for about a year and a half now and just haven’t been able to find that ‘perfect pair’. I think these are just the pair I’ve been looking for though! I’m hoping I picked the right size because they are exactly what I’ve been wanting… They are stunning and the leather is amazing!

3. Sneakers:

We all need to have a good pair of ‘Fun’ Sneakers, such as Gucci’s or the P448’s below. I have both of these and they can be dressed up or down and make a simple outfit look a little more fun!

And for those of us that workout and/or run, a good Workout Sneaker is a must! I personally like Nike, Adidas, or ASICS for working out and running. But try lots of pairs and even consider getting inserts if you have a high arch and need some extra support. When I was training for my first half-marathon, those were a life-saver, especially during the race!

I included a fave pair of my Under Armor Sneakers as well. I like them because they have fun vibrant colors, and while I’ve found they aren’t great for running long distances for ME, they might work for you. I wear these to my HIIT Workouts (High Intensity Interval Training), and they are perfect!

4. Sandals and Flats:

I think I probably wear flip-flops most of the Summer when I’m not working. They are easy to just slide on and go. I picked these Reefs to showcase because these were the flip-flops of choice when I was living in Florida. I was a Swimmer for 10 years, and we ALL wore Reefs! I don’t know if that was just a ‘Swimmer thing’ or a ‘Florida thing’, but either way, they worked, and I still wear them to this day. Although my dog ate my last pair (she’s 5 now and hasn’t done that in forever — I thought those days were over! Anyways, Havaianas also has some good flip-flops and sandals too.

These Caslon Black Heeled Mules are also great for Summer and are a lot more dressy than your flip-flops. These come in multiple colors and are easy to slip on and go and still look nice. You can also wear these with just about anything in the Summertime and into Fall. They look great with a sundresses, shorts, jeans, etc. I’ve had some major trouble trying to find a pair of mules that will stay on my feet! I think I’ve now purchased about 8 pairs and they’ve all had to be returned because I just can’t seem to walk without them slipping off. This Caslon pair below is the closest I’ve come to finding the right fit and style I like. These may just be a keeper!!

5. Winter Boots:

For those of us that have a cold Winter (sorry, Florida Friends), we all need a good pair of waterproof boots with good traction so we don’t face plant it when walking our dogs on a cold, snowy day. UGG makes a few good styles that are great for Winter weather. I grew up in Florida, so I never needed anything like this until I moved to Colorado. I learned the hard way that your Classic Ugg (below) will just not cut it.

But, with that said, I still love having my Classic Ugg Boots (comes in many different heights and colors). They are warm on the inside and comfortable for everyday cold weather (when their isn’t a ton of snow or ice on the ground!).

Below is one more picture of my Shoe Wishlist (not that I have anywhere to put any more shoes!). I can probably figure something out though…😉

I hope you enjoyed my post about shoes! I definitely enjoyed writing about them, as they are a favorite subject of mine. If any of you want to know where to find any of the shoes I discussed, or that I have pictured, please leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to find them for you.

BLAZERS – Fall’s Most Versatile Item

Blazers and Jackets of all styles, colors, and fabrics are all the rage this season. I, for one, have loved blazers for a long time and have been slowly adding blazers in all different styles to my collection. They can completely change an outfit from ‘blah’ to ‘oh, wow!’. I wear blazers with dresses, skirts, jeans.. you name it! Blazers are even being paired with graphic tees and jeans to bring an outfit up a notch. I have put together some collections of all different styles of blazers that I personally like to give some ideas of what is out there. (Picture above is a new Blazer by Veronica Beard)
My first set of pictures are designer blazers – Jonathan Simkhai, Akris Punto, Smythe, Balmain, Saint Laurent, Theory, Emporio Armani, Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, A.L.C., Alice & Olivia, Veronica Beard, Bailey 44, DVF, and Galvan. These blazers range in price from approximately $200 to over $3K. And while these can be quite pricey, a good quality blazer is an investment and can last a lifetime! I love Blazers so much, but for the Designer Blazers like these, I certainly can’t purchase all of the ones I want immediately. I have gotten a few over time, like the Mint Green/Blue Alice & Olivia Blazer and the black moire Smythe Blazer. I was able to purchase both on sale too. BUT… I am absolutely in love with the YSL Blazer in the dark teal velvet (2nd pic below), but that costs over $3K and I don’t think it’s going on sale any time soon. And in order to justify buying it, it would need to be at least 70% off lol!
These can all be found at Nordstrom, Saks, Forward, Revolve, and other designer sites and apps. A lot of them are also currently on sale as well!

These next set of blazers are also great blazers, but won’t break the bank. While I love all of the above designer blazers, it isn’t realistic (or wise), to spend thousands of dollars on these blazers, unless you are financially blessed to be able to do so.
These next photos are much more cost effective and equally as stylish. Designers include BCBGMAXAZRIA, Rachel Zoe, Tularosa, Norma Kamali, Current Elliot, Majorelle, LPA, House of Harlow, Michelle Mason, Norma Kamali, L’Acadamie, Halogen, Hinge, Mural, and Chelsea28. I personally own Blazers by Halogen, Mural, and Rachel Zoe, and I didn’t have to break the bank to buy them. Mind you, all of these things I say I’ve purchased have been over long periods of time, not overnight! You guys are probably thinking that I’m probably up to my ears in debt! Hey, but at least I look good – TOTALLY KIDDING! I promise I am not in debt lol!
Anyways, I purchased the simple and comfortable Mural Blazers in classic black and white for $74 each. I also just purchased the Rachel Zoe Blazers and Pants sets (shown on 1st page below) for ridiculously amazing sale prices. I love them and I didn’t have to pay a fortune on any of them. The Blazers were originally $395 and $495, and the pants were $295 and $395. I was able to get all 4 pieces for $600! That works out to about $150 each…. I’d say that was a pretty good deal. If you like Rachel Zoe, head over to her site to see her amazing prices right now. These all range from approximately $55 to about $495 and they are all great quality too! All of the styles below can be found at Nordstrom, Saks, Forward, Revolve, and other designer sites and apps. And ALWAYS CHECK SALES!

I hope you enjoyed my post about blazers. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I’d love to meet you and interact with you!
