I wanted to write a short piece on some upcoming trends for Spring and Summer. The trends gracing the Runways this Winter for Spring and Summer were bold and to be honest, a little out there! I’ve included a lot of pictures, ranging from bold neon colors, to animal prints (Yes, still in!), to crop tops, Camo (yep!), bralettes, bodysuits (they’re everywhere!), and combinations of all the above, plus much more!

Now personally, I would rock every single item I’ve pictured here, but I realize I’m a rare gem out there who will go bold or go home. I’m known at work and in my personal life for just that!

This picture below with the wet-look neon pants – I would find a way to rock these babies! But, you don’t have to wear these crazy outfits (Crazy Stylish, in my opinion!) this Spring and Summer to still look stylish and on trend!

You can always go a little less bold, if you will. Pair either one of these TopShop crop jackets with just about anything. Stylish yet not too bold either. The jackets below can be found at NORDSTROM . I’ve tried them both on and they are both really cute!

I found these super cute Newsprint Leggings that will look great with a variety of tops! Black obviously, but I was thinking red, blue, orange, etc., with a denim or leather jacket over with black heels or open toed booties! These can be found on my site – Stylebyjrose .

Metallics are also very in this season. Although this dress can be worn in Winter or Fall, it’s being sold right now on my own site.

Animal prints and camo are still just as popular as they were when they first came out. The animal print trend has really taken off this season with snake prints, leopard prints, and more. This adorable tank is one example of the snake print trend, and below that, the camo Bodysuit is another example of pairing two trends together – camo and bodysuits. I, myself, have recently jumped on the bodysuit bandwagon and just acquired about 5 new ones, including the camo Bodysuit below. I also sell the 2 styles below and above on my own Poshmark site – Stylebyjrose .

And lets not forget about footwear! Sandals are huge this year, and I don’t mean just flip flops. We can always accept flip flops as one of the sandals of choice for Summer. I mean real Sandals! – wedges and slides and mules of all shapes and colors!

Below is a couple of pairs from my own site on Poshmark, which I hope to take to the next level one day! Check out this assortment of sandals from my shop online on Poshmark – Stylebyjrose

I hope you’ve enjoyed my short piece on just a few of this Spring and Summers’ styles. I’m must say that I think I’m most excited about the sandals. They are so unique and so comfortable and on trend for the season! And not your ordinary piece that is seasonally popular!

I’ve always been fascinated and curious about the prospect of possibly getting my lips done.. I did a bunch of research and when I felt like I was fully versed on lip injections, I found a clinic with rave reviews nearby and made an appointment. Meanwhile, I have NEVER done anything like this before… No Botox, No breast implants, no nothin’! So I was a little nervous going into it as to what to expect.

On the morning of, I got up early for my 10am appointment. I had decided to go with Simply Injectables in Denver, because as I said above, their reviews were amazing! I arrived at the clinic early and checked in and the staff told me it would just be a few minutes. I forgot to mention that I didn’t tell a single soul that I was doing this! It was kind of an experiment to see how many people, if any, even noticed. While in the waiting room, I took a couple of ‘before’ pics. (See below)..

Once in the procedure room, I spoke with Katie, my Nurse and Technician, who was extremely helpful and put my nerves at ease. She was a great listener and offered advice as to what she thought would be best for me. I was impressed right away! I told her I wanted a “I think something is different about Jess, but I don’t know what it it.. but whatever it is, I’m liking it!” kind of look. She totally got me! She put a topical numbing cream on (which I was adverse to at first, just because I hate being numb). She told me I would really want it because it does hurt. Again, I thought, “Well, I have a pretty high pain tolerance.. I should be able to get through this without it..”. DEFINITELY do the numbing cream is all I have to say! It still hurts quite a bit with it, so I can only imagine without it. I mean, they are sticking a needle into a very sensitive area, so get all the help you can with pain in my opinion. We talked about the plan and where I wanted more filler, where I wanted less filler, etc. So, after answering questions and signing my life away, we got started! We were using Juvéderm Lip Filler, which she explained was the best and ‘middle-ground’ filler that will last up to a year. Here are my pictures from 1 hour after the procedure:

She did warn me that I would have some swelling and possible bruising, which I barely had any swelling and absolutely no bruising…thank goodness! We had discussed during the consultation that I didn’t want to go overboard and look like it was obvious that I had my lips done, but that I also wanted it to look like I had my lips done, but in a very subtle way. We used 3/4 of the syringe of Juvéderm, so I still have a 1/4 left for any touch ups I’d like to get. I already have an appointment for that, as it needs to be used within a month.

So I left the clinic and proceeded to become obsessed with my lips! Here are some pictures below of my results:

So all in all, I had a VERY positive experience with my very first cosmetic procedure. And like I said, I’ve already made a follow up appointment to use the rest of the syringe because 1. I’d like to get my money’s worth, and 2. I’m going to have her use the rest of it mostly on my upper lip. Also, a couple little tidbits of info – I did find out that Juvéderm is a water-based filler, which helps keep your lips hydrated (bonus!). And, if for some reason I absolutely hated it, there is another injection that can be used to dissolve the filler and get your lips back to normal. Knowing that definitely put my mind at ease more.

The funny part about all of this was, my own MOTHER, who I see all the time, did not even notice! And most of my friends at work DID notice. My next shift at work, my manager was walking up to me and started to talk to me and stopped in mid-sentence and said, “OMG, you got your lips done!” Lol 😂. I did wait 5 days and then finally told my mom. And now, she wants to get it done. Also, I’ve had numerous co-workers compliment me on how natural they look and now they also want to get their lips done! That was the ultimate compliment.

Now that I know what to expect, I have no reservations at all about Lip Fillers for the future. I certainly won’t let myself get crazy with them, but I will continue to do this about once a year I imagine.

EDIT: I went back today and had the rest of my filler injected into my lips. She used most of the filler on my mid upper and lower lips to get a “poutier” look. I added a couple of pics to show this, and will add more when I’m not swollen!

Thanks so much for reading, my friends!😘

Not sure what’s going on with me this year, but for some reason, I can’t seem to get into the Christmas Spirit! I have the house decorated, the lights are up, I work at Nordstrom with Christmas music playing all day (maybe that’s the problem, lol), and I LOVE Christmas! But this year seems different. There’s no snow on the ground and we haven’t had snow for a awhile. But that shouldn’t bother me too much considering I’m from Florida and am used to 80 degree Christmas Day’s… No, there’s something else… If I could put my finger on it, maybe I could fix it. Or maybe I just need to get through it and accept my feelings and stay in the moment. But ‘the moment’ kind of stinks right now! So I do not accept that!
I won’t go on and on about the potential reasons for my Holiday Blues. I just hope it passes since Christmas is right around the corner and I’d really like to enjoy it. I have one more shopping day left before Christmas, and we all know I LOVE to shop, but that sounds terrible right now! I close tonight at Nordstrom and then have an early morning interview tomorrow (at a bigger Nordstrom in a different Department), so I won’t get much sleep tonight and need to find a way to be sharp at the interview. It’s a job I’ve been wanting for a while now. And from there, I need to finish my shopping on very little sleep. And then I work every day up until Christmas. Maybe I’m just overwhelmed and stressed!?
Usually I get the blues the day AFTER Christmas. This is the first time I’ve felt down before Christmas. I understand feeling down after Christmas, so it’s easier to accept that. You look forward to something all year, and then just like that… It’s over! And you start to think, “Now what? What do I look forward to now?” We are such a society of ‘right now’ and getting what we want, when we want it. Very few of us have the ability to just stay present and enjoy the ups and downs of each day. I know I have a problem with staying in the moment. I’ve tried to train my brain to do it, but so often I fall back into looking into the past or looking into the future and putting my expectations on an event. When those expectations aren’t met, I’m disappointed and sad. Ah, expectations! I learned a long time ago that having expectations was just setting myself up for disappointment. So why do I still do it? I’ve always done it, and I don’t think I’m alone in that, but to re-train your brain after so many years takes a lot of work, and I myself, have yet to find a quick cure. There isn’t a quick cure, because like I said, it takes WORK! And honestly, I’m not sure I know how to retrain my brain…(as I Google this exact subject to see if they have the answers lol)
I love this quote below. Just shows how most of us DON’T live in the moment.. This quote pretty much sums up having expectations as a whole: “Yeah, I have a boyfriend. I just haven’t met him yet. But he’s amazing and he always sends me flowers and candy and he lavishes me with jewelry and anything I want. Plus he’s a model, so he’s very handsome! He’s just perfect! But so am I, so it only makes sense that these 2 perfect human beings are together!”…..Said no one, EVER!
I think that this year I just need to accept that I’m a little overwhelmed and stressed (which doesn’t mean these feelings will last forever), and I believe it’s making me sad. Maybe when I get through tomorrow and the interview and shopping, things will start to look a little more ‘Christmasy’…. afterall, I’ll only have 4 working days until Christmas is here! And MAYBE, I can even make it a point to really try and work hard to stay focused on being present and staying in the moment! It will be a Christmas Miracle!
In spite of how I feel right now, I know all feelings (good and bad) will pass. So I’m confident that my ‘Christmas Blues’ will also pass, and maybe I’ll even learn something by going through this. In any event, I hope you all are in a better Christmas Spirit right now than I am, and I wish you all a very blessed holiday and Christmas! If anyone can relate though, I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for reading, my friends!

Good morning, my dear Fashion Lovers!

This holiday season, like every other, we are getting ready for holiday parties, picking out our outfits for New Year’s Eve, and buying dresses for all the festivities that are coming. We need to look our best, and for some, this is a daunting task. The Dress Department at Nordstrom is one of the Departments I work in, and many women are coming in with that look on their face…. you know the one…. the look that says, “I have to get a pretty dress and wear it to this stupid party, and I’m miserable and don’t want to be here!” I had 2 women just yesterday who came in back-to-back with this look. I ended up helping them both find dresses they liked and were comfortable in, but it was definitely a difficult task just because of the mind-set they were in when they arrived. They left very happy though!

But when did getting dressed up for parties, and going to parties in general become such a chore?? I, myself, feel the opposite. I wish I had MORE parties to go to so I can buy more beautiful dresses! Just the other day, I tried on this gorgeous Dress the Population Fuchsia Velvet and sequined Dress and I didn’t buy it because I have no where to wear it…such a travesty! I do suppose I understand not really wanting to go to parties. The older I get, the more of a home-body I’ve become. But I still really like to get dressed up every now and then! I guess I just like beautiful dresses and clothes, but not necessarily the parties that go along with them (pictures the ‘FRIENDS’ episode where the girls are sitting around the apartment in wedding dresses eating junk food and drinking beer…).

I’ve seen this season that a lot of women have elected to wear a jumpsuit or nice pants and blazer instead of a dress, which is a great alternative to those who don’t like dresses. See pictures below:

I even love shoes and boots that have shimmer and sequins. These beauties are actually from DSW and I got them for a great price. They are also really comfortable, believe it or not. I like to pair boots like this with a fairly plain outfit so the boots are the focal piece. You don’t want to pair ‘sparkle on sparkle’ unless that’s the look you’re going for and it looks just right. There IS such thing as too much sparkle! I know, hard to believe, right?!

These sequined boots below are by Steve Madden . These boots are gorgeous, but not the most practical boots in the world. But Style isn’t always practical.. I had to go up a full size from my normal size, and I also about killed myself trying to walk in them for the first time because they were so slippery. They are also very snug around the ankles, and I have very thin ankles and calves. So keep that in mind if planning on purchasing these. And make sure to scuff up the bottoms before you go out in public. Death by boots is probably a fitting way for me to die lol (but not really lol!)

I bought this super comfortable and very reasonably priced mini bronze/black shimmer dress by Row A at Nordstrom . I have no idea where I’ll wear it, but NYE comes to mind first. My girlfriend even took a video of me ‘walking the runway’ to really show off the dress!

This next dress is by Dress the Population , one of my favorite Designers, in part because of his use of sequins! This particular style is a personal favorite because of the amazing fit and the sequin fringe bottom. It literally makes you want to twirl the entire time! And it’s a known fact that twirling creates feelings of pure joy, as seen in the second picture below. This is definitely a statement-maker dress.. it also comes in a beautiful cobalt blue and silver.

This last dress is also by Dress the Population. The colors of the sequins are extraordinary – bronze, gold, rose gold, silver – brilliant! If you’ve never tried a Dress the Population dress or jumpsuit before, I highly recommend that you do. Even if you aren’t into shimmer and sequins, they have other styles as well. I, obviously, am into the sequined styles. You can find these dresses at their own personal site, Dress the Population or at select Nordstrom’s and Nordstrom Online .

And lastly, here are some sparkly, shimmery, glittery, sequined styles that can be found at sites like Revolve , Forward , and Nordstrom . If you are hesitant to try a sequined Style, whether it be because of body image issues, or maybe you think it ‘just isn’t your style’…. To both, I say OWN IT! Wear whatever you like and whatever makes you feel amazing!

Thank you so much for reading my post today. I hope you enjoyed it as well as the pictures. And I hope I’ve inspired some of you to get in the ‘Sparkle Spirit’!

As you can tell by my title and can probably guess… I am currently 39 years old, but am about to be 40 in just a few short days! I have NOT been looking forward to turning 40, but I am trying to put a positive spin on it! Turning 40 simply isn’t the worst thing in the world, right? RIGHT?!

This past year has been filled with ups and down, wild turns, roller coasters, and really a crazy theme park wild ride. I’ve certainly had much worse years, and I’d even consider my 39th year on this earth to be a pretty good one overall. I have a lot to be grateful for – I’m still working in Fashion, which I love; I’m still very healthy, although I’d like to be more fit going into my 40’s; I still have my best friend and baby girl, Scarlet, my American Bulldog, who is 5 now; I have a great, supportive mother in my life; I don’t think I look 40😉; And I’m doing ok financially. Plus countless more things I am grateful for.. So why does turning 40 scare me?

Well, I think it scares me because I’m not where I thought I’d be in my life right now. But who really is? I thought I’d be married with kids a LONG time ago. Never in a million years did I think it would ever be possible for me to be turning 40 and still be single. It also scares me because I have a very small family, no siblings, and I’m only close with my mom, who obviously won’t be around forever. Yes, she is also getting older! We are all getting older as each second passes. So I worry sometimes that when my mom is gone (God forbid, but still being realistic), I will REALLY be alone, and that part terrifies me!

But, I said I was putting a positive spin on turning 40, so I’m not going to talk about the morbidity of my mom, or the fact that I’m still single without kids. Although, I just did, didn’t I? Ok, so NOW I’m not going to talk about that. I’m going to believe that there is a reason for these things, and I really do believe there is a reason! Even though I’m not exactly where I thought I should be in life at this age, I’m going to trust the Universe that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, whatever the reasons. I’m going to believe that there is a plan and I’m living out that plan perfectly right now!

So for the moment, I’m going to focus on the great year of 39 I just had! I continued to grow and advance in my Fashion career (New York 5 Year Plan, here I come!), I still enjoy my job and look forward to what the future holds in it, I have a great family and supportive mother who I’m very close with, I have wonderful friends and have become close with some at work who want to take me out that night, I am still loving and raising my Scarlet, who has turned out to be the best dog I could have ever asked for! She really has gotten me through some tough times, and I’m grateful I’m able to give her the best life for the short time she’s with me here.

I love this quote below talking about not being held back by a number… very inspirational! It speaks to me quite a bit because the closer I’ve gotten to the age of 40, I feel that I rush into things and try to go so fast because I don’t want to waste time. I do this specifically when it comes to my career in Fashion. I need to just slow down and breathe and let things happen, without becoming overly complacent of course.

So as I finish up this post, TODAY is my 40th birthday! It just feels like a normal day so far… I’m going to get a few chores done and then get to having some fun! I have the whole day off of work and my mom and I are going to have a shopping day together, which sounds wonderful. She is one of just a few people who I actually like to shop with (I’m a lone shopper normally). That evening, I’m going to meet up with some work friends and have just a chill night with them at a sports bar. It was nice of them to want to take me out and they seem to be excited for a night out too! They all knew I was having a hard time with turning 40, so I’m glad they are forcing me out of the house to have some fun! Hopefully we don’t get too crazy, as we all have to work the next day. But knowing this crew, we will get crazy lol! Either way, it will be a fun time! 🍻🎂

Thank you for reading everyone and thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts on getting older. I think my 40’s will be my best decade yet! They do say that your 40’s are the new 30’s, after all!

EDIT: Just wanted to give a little update on my birthday… it was actually a really nice day and evening! Mom and I postponed shopping until this weekend because I was so exhausted from working 5 days in a row on my feet on a busy retail weekend, and the last thing I wanted to do was go to the mall. So I just relaxed for most of the day and then went to the bar to meet some gurlfriends that night! We had a great time – great friends, great conversation, lots of laughs, and just an overall great evening out! So it turns out that turning 40 really didn’t phase me much lol 😂
